Z.13 MATERIALS RECEIVING
Vehicles enter the facility from Lovelace Road (Figure 6).
Commercial refuse vehicles enter the site via lane 3, the commercial lane. These trucks are
weighed at the scale and directed to the commercial (west) side of the MRF for unloading.
Vehicles
containing pre-sorted recyclables also
enter the site via lane 3.
These are weighed and
directed
to unload at the appropriate recyclable
tip area at the MRF.
The scale house has the tare (empty) weight of many of the commercial customers' vehicles.
The tare weight on record is subtracted from the known tare weight, and the customer billed
based on the weight of refuse delivered. If the facility records do not contain the tare weight for a
vehicle, then the vehicle must be reweighed after it is emptied.
Self -haul vehicles enter the site via lanes 1 and 2 including vehicles containing rock, green and
yard waste, agricultural materials, wood and brush.
2.4 UNLOADING
Commercial and Self -Haul vehicles are directed to their respective unloading areas.
MRF attendants are present at all times in the self -haul area during operating hours. These
attendants direct traffic and ensure that unloading is according to facility safety guidelines. The
main function of the MRF is to transport non-recoverable refuse material to landfills; however,
efforts are made to recover useful materials for recycling and reuse such as wood waste,
construction debris, yard, and garden waste. Vehicles containing a high percentage of recyclable
materials are directed to one of the material recovery stations. Loads containing wood waste,
yard and garden wastes are directed to a designated area where they are loaded into 40 yard
bins for delivery to a facility for reuse and/or feedstock for composting.
Lovelace MRF and Transfer Station
Transfer Processing Report
April 10, 2015
11
Department of Public Works/Solid Waste Division
County of San Joaquin
