Patton Ave., Stockton
APN: 103-130-15 SR0084372
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading Study (SSNL) dated August 2021 for the above noted location and has the following comments for
your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term nitrate loading impact to groundwater for the following
proposed accessory dwelling unit (ADU).
Based on the information provided the EHD can make the following findings:
1. According to the SSNL, the estimated nitrate loading from the proposed OWTS usage is 11.2 mg/L as
nitrate-nitrogen and the maximum contaminant level of 10 mg/L-N. EHD will require an oversized
septic tank for installation of a standard Onsite Wastewater Treatment System.
1. The Percolation test conducted on September 28, 2021 yielded a percolation rate of 3.21 min/inch.
At this rate, a minimum 20 feet of soil separation is required between bottom of the dispersal field
and the groundwater. The SSNL reports a historic groundwater level of 110 feet below surface
grade. (San Joaquin County OWTS Standard Table 1.10.2).
2. The OWTS and its 100% replacement areas shall meet all required minimum setbacks stated in San
Joaquin County (OWTS) Standard and Well Standard.
If you have any questions please contact Michael Suszycki, Senior Registered Environmental Health
Specialist, REHS, at msuszycki@sjgov.org or (209) 589-7001.
Steven Shih, REHS
Program Coordinator
CC: Paul Armanino, 476 N.
