The above noted is not correct. Please refer to SJC
percolation testing procedure and refer to No 1 since water was left in the test hole overnight (enclosed).
Thereafter refer to test results for hole number 3 which is also enclosed.
Percolation test is defined in Title 124 - Rules and Regulations for the Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Onsite
Wastewater Treatment Systems
According to the Nebraska DOT(et al). It is the last 30 min reading which is used for the test. The water in hole
number three (3) fell 0.5 (1/2 inch every half hour for two hours). It also fell three (3) inches the first 2 or 2.5
hours, but this information is disregarded.
The mpi, or percolation rate of a test hole (the time in minutes for the water level in the test hole to
drop one inch), It is determined by dividing the number of minutes elapsed by the water level drop in
inches during the final measurement period....
The last reading is the basis for the rate which 30 min /0.5 inch which 60mpi
According to experts this is an acceptable percolation rate (if the rate is too fast a rate it is likely to contaminate
ground water and if it is too slow water is not allowed to absorbed) but if you like to discuss it personally please
let me know and I'll come in and see you. In the meantime, I'll assume my methodology is correct and only re-
test one additional hole since the other passed.
Thank you
Alfred Martinez, PE No. 59092
(415) 680-5351
On Wed, Nov 20, 2019 at 7:57 AM Shih, Steven <sshingsigov.org> wrote:
Hi Alfred:
I took a look at your percolation test result and found that the percolation rate was calculated incorrectly. The test hole
1, 2 and 3 should all be 0 min/in or failed. I believe this test was performed under the procedure #2 and the rate
should be calculated with the smallest reading of the four (4) hour period. You are welcome to refill 6 inches of water
over the gravel as necessary.
