Both the primary and secondary suction lysimeters had retained a vacuum <br />after 24 hours indicating that if sufficient moisture was present within the pore spaces of <br />the soil that the lysimeters were installed, fluids would have been extracted. <br />• LZ -2 — Both the primary and secondary suction lysimeters were dry and did not contain <br />any fluids. Both the primary and secondary suction lysimeters had retained a vacuum <br />after 24 hours indicating that if sufficient moisture was present within the pore spaces of <br />the soil that the lysimeters were installed, fluids would have been extracted. <br />• LZ -3 — Both the primary and secondary suction lysimeters extracted approximately 5 to <br />10 ML of fluid, which is insufficient to collect a sample. Basically, water in the tubing <br />gurgles and is expelled out of the sample tubing. Because a sustained discharge was <br />not achieved from either suction lysimeter, this is evidence that the lysimeters below the <br />liner are not in saturated soil. <br />• LZ -4 — The primary suction lysimeter extracted approximately 150 ML of fluid, which was <br />sufficient to collect a sample. The secondary suction lysimeter extracted approximately <br />10 ML of fluid, which was insufficient to collect a sample. Water gurgled and was <br />expelled out of the sample tubing of the secondary suction lysimeter. Because a <br />sustained flow was not achieved from the secondary suction lysimeter, this is evidence <br />that the lysimeters below the liner are not in saturated soil. <br />A water sample was collected from the primary suction lysimeter of LZ -4 for volatile organic <br />compound (VOC) testing by EPA Method 8260 in accordance with the site's WDR. Because <br />there was only 150 ML of fluid present, there was insufficient volume to conduct other laboratory <br />testing.
