REHS
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study, dated September 2021 and submitted on November 23, 2021 for the above noted
location, and has the following comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater for the following proposed
project.
• Six (6) duplex Farm Labor Residential Dwelling units on two (2) five -acre lots, totaling of twelve
(12) duplex units.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings:
1. The SSNL Study supports the (OWTS) usage with the following conditions:
a. According to the SSNL, the estimated nitrate loading from existing and proposed OWTS usage is
13.18 mg/L as nitrate -nitrogen and the maximum contaminant level allowed is 10 mg/L-N. The
SSNL also states that groundwater is approximately 80 feet below the ground surface at the site.
With all of these factors taken into consideration, EHD will require an alternative engineered
designed Onsite Wastewater Treatment System.
b. The OWTS and its 100% replacement areas shall meet all required minimum setbacks stated in
San Joaquin County (OWTS) Standard and Well Standard.
If you have any questions please contact Frank Girardi, Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist,
at fvgirardi@sjgov.org or (209) 616-3044.
Steven ShihREHS
Program Coordinator
c: SAPPHIRE CREEK LLC; 5252 BEAR CREEK RD., LODI CA 95240
1868 E.
