A single trace
7 VOC (chloromethane) was detected at MW -1, and another single trace (chloroethane) was detected at MW -
3. In neither case had these compounds been detected prior to this sampling event except as laboratory
contaminants. We believe that such sporadic and inconsistent findings reflect the extreme sensitivity of the
analytical instruments used and the difficulty in making any laboratory environment contaminant -free.
With the exception of these sporadic "detections" and false positive reports due to laboratory
contamination, no VOCs have been found at Foothill Sanitary Landfill since October 2002.
Surface water was sampled this semester. Acetone and 2-Butanone were detected in both the upstream and
downstream samples; therefore, impact by the landfill is not indicated.
Soil gas VOC monitoring continues on a semi-annual basis, in accordance with the WDRs.
If you have any questions, please call me at (209) 468-8504.
Sincerely,
.117
W.
