4.4.1.1 Materials
The GCCS components will be constructed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), HDPE pipe,
fiberglass, stainless steel, and other nonporous, corrosion resistant materials or steel with
an adequate corrosion allowance.
4.4.1.2 Component Sizing
The initial GCCS components will be sized to handle LFG flow rate as identified herein.
Future expansions of the GCCS, will be sized to handle the actual available LFG
collected by the wells to maintain compliance with NSPS Section §60.7659(a)(2).
4.4.1.3 Component Loading
Below ground GCCS components will consist primarily of LFG wells and LFG
conveyance pipe road crossings. Road crossings will be constructed with corrugated
metal pipe (CMP) or equivalent around the LFG piping or will be adequately deep to
pr%lde p>~f ofti vel "e leads. The applied loads on GCCS components within the
landfill, as well as settlement forces, cannot be accurately predicted due to the non-
homogeneous nature of the refuse within the landfill. However, below ground
components within the landfill will be designed to be consistent with industry accepted
GCCS design and construction practices.
4.4.1.4 System Expansion
After the initial installation, GCCS collection will be expanded along with the expansion
of the landfill and as necessary to comply with NSPS requirements and this design plan.
San Joaquin County will conduct periodic monitoring and document compliance of the
GCCS in accordance with NSPS requirements and this design plan. If the GCCS at the
Foothill Landfill does not meet the measures of performance set forth in this pian, the
GCCS will be adjusted or modified in accordance with NSPS requirements.
Sufficient room will be provided in the.flare station to facilitate expansion of the
combustion equipment.
4.4.1.5 Component Perforation
Vertical wells and horizontal collector trenches will be perforated to allow LFG entry
without inducing head losses sufficient to impair performance.
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 12 Public Works/Solid Waste
LFG CS Design Plan County of San Joaquin - March 10, 2005
