• TON F r,5 <br />- 5- <br />2' .)uly l'85 <br />beneficial uses already exists in the language of Subchapter 15 ana our <br />Region's past efforts to protect aquatic life from heavy metals. <br />Ms. Catherine Kuhlman of the Water Quality Planning Standards Section of the <br />EPA, Region 9 office has informed me that the application of the 10-6 cancer <br />risk level, instead of the TTHII MCL, as the goal for the cleanup of chloroform <br />contaminated ground water appears to be consistent with the federal Clean <br />Water Act and the recently adopted Safe Drinking Water Acta Mr, Bill <br />Thurston, head of the Safe Drinking Water Program for EPA, Reqion 9, also <br />agrees t'nat the TTHM standard is not appropriate for protection of ambient <br />water Gualii r and should not form the basis of cleanup decisions.
