A large number of the birds were
crushed in this event. This unexpected loss exceeds the capability of the ranch to dispose of the
dead birds. We estimate the loss to be one truckload, or approximately 25 tons.
Wei to have a portion of the birds rendered, however, some of the birds may be severely
crushed and not acceptable for rendering. We are requesting permission to dispose of these birds
at the nearby Foothill Landfill. Absent your approval the landfill may not accept the birds.
This is an unusual emergency-type situation. Failure to promptly dispose ofthe birds will result
in or and other undesirable consequences from the decomposition of the turkeys. Delays will
also complicate future disposal options.
Please contact me at(209)3945343 to let me know if we may dispose of the turkeys as outlined
in this letter.
Sincerely,
A
Dave Duke
Assistant Manager, Environmental Affairs
Foster Farms
