Raeann Woody, Management Team Leader, stated items that require
processing, such as damaged and returned items, are processed either at the end of each day or first thing the
following morning by any store management employee. The following was found:
- The following was found in a Toxic HW tote with accumulation start date 6/29/18 (see photo IMG 1747):
- A leaking container of Beauty 360 Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap without absorbent or clean-up debris in a
StrongPak bag, and scanned as Toxic HW tote (1748-1749). When asked what happened to the debris used to
clean-up the initial leak/spill, Raeann Woody did not know. Raeann added absorbent to the StrongPak bag with the
leaking container at the time of inspection.
- A CVS Health Professional Clean Power Toothbrush containing two AA batteries, labeled with "Does not work"
and "TX," scanned as Toxic HW (IMG 1750-1752). When asked why this item was placed in the Toxic HW tote,
Raeann stated who ever placed it in the tote followed what the scanner prompted them to do, rather than call the
CVS Safety Hotline phone number to verify which tote the item should be placed in since the item contains batteries.
Raeann stated she would verify if this item should go into a Universal Waste tote.
All of the items listed above were identified as waste by Raeann Woody.
- An Oxidizers HW tote with accumulation start date 8/24/18 had "Tooth Whiteners" marked on the label, however
there wasn't any tooth whitener products inside the tote (IMG 1753-1754).
- A Corrosive Acids HW tote with accumulation start date 7/2/18 contained a leaking Scrub Free Total Bathroom
Cleaner spray inside a StrongPak bag, without absorbent or clean-up debris. The cleaner scanned as Corrosive
Acids HW. This item was identified as waste by Raeann.
- The following was found in an open container labeled as "Back to Vendor Can Not Scan Out," on a shelf adjacent
to the HW storage area (IMG 1760-1761, 1784):
- A can of Big Sexy Hair hairspray was double bagged in a StrongPak bag and labeled as "Hazardous Waste" and
there appeared to be absorbent inside the bag. The item scanned as "DSD Item Markdown Not Allowed Return For
Vendor Credit Do Not Dispose In Dumpster" (IMG 1762-1764). When asked why this item was not placed in a HW
tote, Raeann stated it would be returned to the vendor for credit.
- A PowerXcel Durable Micro to USB scanned as Universal Waste (IMG 1771-1772). This item was identified as
waste by Raeann.
- Philips Vibes earphones scanned as Universal Waste (IMG 1773-1774), while another open package of Philips
earphones scanned as "Dispose in Dumpster" (IMG 1785-1786). These items were identified as waste by Raeann.
- Two PowerXcel Rapid Charge Braided 1Oft Micro USBs scanned as Universal Waste (1787-1791). These items
were identified as waste by Raeann.
-The following was found in an open cardboard box labeled as "PILF" (IMG 1811):
- CVS Health Pregnancy 2 Test Sticks packaged that contained one test stick, scanned as Toxic HW (IMG
1809-1810). This item was identified as waste by Raeann.
- The following was found in an open cardboard box labeled as "Expired" (IMG 1814):
- Six boxes of Blade Clinical Strength Antiperspirant & Deodorant, expired 06/2018, and scanned as Toxic HW
(IMG 1812-1813).
