3 MONITORING PROGRAM
3.1 Water Quality Monitoring
3.1.1 Groundwater Monitoring
The groundwater well network for LF-1 and LF-2 consists of up gradient well MW-4 and
down gradient wells MW-2R, MW-3, MW-5 and MW-6. Well MW-lA, which had
previously been considered up gradient, was found to be cross gradient from the landfill,
and not down gradient of any portion of the landfill, as evident by regular water level
monitoring. LF-1 is under corrective action monitoring and LF-2 is under detection
monitoring. The monitoring wells in each of these programs are described in Section 4.
3.1.2 Surface Water monitoring
Surface water samples are collected from points SW-1 and SW-2 for both LF-1 and LF-2.
3.1.3 Unsaturated (Vadose) Zone Monitoring
Soil pore samples are collected from lysimeters LZ-1, LZ-2, LZ-3, LZ-4, LZ-5, and pan
lysimeters under the lined units. LZ-1 is the background vadose zone monitoring
lysimeter. In addition, soil gas samples will be collected from the 25 tri-level perimeter
soil gas probes SG-12 and SG-102 through SG-125.
In addition, LF-1 is monitored with soil gas probes SG-1, SG-2A, SG-3A, SG-4, SG-5,
SG-6A, SG-7, SG-9, SG-10A, and SG-I IA situated around the perimeter of LF-1. The
locations designated with an"A" are tri-level monitoring probes.
The monitoring points for LF-1 and LF-2 are shown on Figure 2.
3.2 Sampling Procedures
Water quality samples are collected on a semiannual basis from all points accept MW-3,
which is sampled quarterly. Samples are analyzed for the constituents listed in WDR
Order No. R5-2015-0058. Samples are collected, preserved, and then transported with
the appropriate chain-of-custody documentation to a state-certified laboratory for
analyses. Groundwater elevation measurements are taken at each well prior to sampling.
The sampling and analysis procedures for LF-1 and LF-2 are provided in Appendix A.
Also provided in Appendix A are the following:
Foothill WQPS Rev Ldoc
3-1
