a
Natalia r r • '" •
From: Joyesh Chandra <Jchandra@sjgov.org>
Sent: Wednesday, December 03, 2014 11:48 AM
To: Natalia Subbotnikova [EH]
Cc: Robert McClellon [EH]; Taj Bahadori; Michael Carroll
Subject: FH -MW -6 Revised Design
Attachments: FH -MW -6 GW Well Inst -Work Plan-REv 12-3-14.pdf, Fig 2-FH-MW-6-
DblScreenWell-12-3-14.pdf
Hello Natalia
Re: FA# 4517
SR# 0070696
Our division is submitting a design change for the groundwater well MW -6 at Foothill landfill
(Attached -Figure 2). The new design is for a double screen groundwater monitoring well. The design
change is made to address the continuous drop in groundwater table in the Central Valley. In the
past five years, Solid Waste had to replace few groundwater wells due to the decreasing groundwater
table. Below is a list of replaced wells:
1. Foothill landfill (MW -1),
2. Harney Lane landfill two wells (MW -3 and MW -4),
3. North County landfill (G-2 and G-5).
The new well design will allow groundwater monitoring for a longer period and will eliminate re -drilling
of new wells within a short period of time as the groundwater table continues to drop.
The packer shown in Figure 2 separates the monitoring intervals. When the first screen interval dries
out, the packer will be removed and monitoring will continue from the second screen interval. We
have spoken to Greg Drilling, and they have constructed this type of well and are familiar with the
packer process. The Viton body packer is used widely in environmental work, is inert in water and
does not add any VOCs.
The work plan and specs submitted earlier would remain the same. Attached is the work plan with
the revised figure 2. Could EHD review the new design and approve for installation? We have
tentatively scheduled the well installation for the first week of January 2015.
Thanks
JOYESH CHANDRA
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY I PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT I SOLID WASTE DIVISION
1810 E.
