Three significant considerations must be taken into account regarding factors used in the nitrate
loading calculations, leading to a lower nitrate loading factor than that calculated.
The first consideration is the water use volume. As referenced above, the water meter readings on
the domestic well taken by Water Operator Mr. Sam Hedge, indicates that 26,987 gallons of water
were used in 2020 (2,249 gallons per month or 74 gpd), on average. However, this volume also
includes landscape irrigation, which is an indeterminable volume. As noted for the nitrate loading
calculations, 60 gpd/person, or 2,220 gpd has been used since it is promulgated in the EHD Water
Use Computation Factor Table and was specified by EHD for this project.
Secondly, it is obvious the facility is not at maximum occupancy every day of the year (as was
calculated) and sometimes only at a fraction of maximum occupancy.
Thirdly, in using the total T1CN concentration in the nitrate loading calculations, it is assumed the
entire organic fraction will undergo mineralization (aminization and ammonification) forming
ammonium, and that the entire concentration of ammonium will ultimately convert to nitrate
through nitrification. Although the percentage of these conversion processes is indeterminable, it
is certainly not 100% and may be substantially less. Additionally, the effluent receiving soils
adjacent to the sump structure exhibited a highly significant characteristic of mitigating
nitrification.
SSS§ 6.7, NLS§ 3.6. From the information and data referenced, the calculations and
recommendations presented, it can be concluded that the proposed building addition to the Haven
of Peace Facility can occur without causing excessive strain on the OWTS disposal structures in
accepting the anticipated additional flows and without exceeding the nitrate loading standards. In
addition, due to the subsurface explorations by Mr. Cabrera, it was determined the new building
addition will not encroach upon the existing leachlines.
Page -9-
Chesney Consulting
