Cleaning and Striping <br />B. Construction of Fill <br />Work includes cleaning and stripping of the building pad and surrounding area as <br />indicated on the drawings. From this area remove all debris, irrigation lines, old <br />pavement, trees, brush, roots, and vegetable ruin and grub out all large roots <br />(1/2 inch or greater diameter) to a depth of at least two feet below the footing <br />elevation. The vegetable materials and all materials from the cleaning operation <br />shall be removed from the site. <br />L. Preliminary Operations <br />After the eleaning and stripping operation and the cuts have been <br />completed and before any fill is placed in any particular area, the existing <br />surface shall be scarified to a depth of 8 inches and. compacted to dry <br />densities in excess of 90 percent of the maximum dry density as obtained <br />by the Standard Test Methods for Laboratory Compaction Characteristics <br />of Soil using Modified Effort, ASTM D1557 designation. The soil should be <br />compacted at moisture content between J. and 3 percentage points above <br />the optimum moisture content. It may be necessary to adjust: the <br />moisture content of the subgrade soil by watering or aeration; Lo bring the <br />moisture content of the soil near optimum in order that the specified <br />densities can be obtained. <br />2.
