Standard Operating Procedure for Soiled Shop Towel Handling <br /> Ist <br /> STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE <br /> FOR SOILED SHOP TOWEL HANDLING <br /> 1. OVERVIEW <br /> This procedure is intended to provide a safe and compliant method of loading, <br /> transporting and storing soiled shop towels (Wipers) that are being used by our <br /> customers. Our goal is to eliminate or contain any residual liquids that may be present <br /> and reduce vapor emissions. <br /> Soiled shop towels that are handled in accordance with this procedure are specifically <br /> excluded from the definition of hazardous waste, which means UniFirst can handle <br /> these products without the need for many procedures and requirements that would <br /> otherwise may apply under hazardous waste regulations. <br /> 2. PURPOSE <br /> The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure is to provide step-by-step detail of <br /> the work processes to be followed within UniFirst locations when handling soiled shop <br /> towels. Additional procedures may need to be incorporated for particular accounts or <br /> facilities based on Customer and Regulatory requirements. <br /> 3. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS <br /> Approved Containers. There are options to transport Soiled Shop Towels, sometimes <br /> referred to as "Wipers", from the Customers' sites, to plants or branches; transporting <br /> from branches to plants, or stored at the plant prior to processing.
