3.2 Biochemical Oxygen Demand
The five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BODS)and five-day carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand
(CBOD5)analyses were completed using Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater
22nd edition. The results of both analyses are shown in Figure 1.
Influent BODS:
Individual influent BODS concentrations ranged from 100 to 560 mg/L during the evaluation, with average and
median concentrations of 200 mg/L. Thirty day average concentrations ranged from 160 to 240 mg/L.
Effluent CBOD5:
Effluent CBOD5 concentrations ranged from <2 to 48 mg/L over the course of the evaluation, with an average
concentration of 9 mg/L and a median effluent CBOD5 concentrations of 3 mg/L.
The Standard requires that the effluent CBOD5 not exceed 40 mg/L on a 7-day average or 25 mg/L on a 30-
day average. As presented in Table 11, over the course of the test the 7-day average effluent CBOD5 ranged
from 2 to 34 mg/L and the 30-day average ranged from 2 to 25 mg/L. The Eljen DN450 met the
requirements of Standard 40 for effluent CBOD5-
BODS Loading:
Over the course of the evaluation the influent BODS loading averaged 0.77 lbs. /day. The Eljen DN450
achieved an average reduction of 0.74 lbs. /day.
15/10/055/0030 This report may not be reproduced in whole or in part Page 11 of 59
Final Report without the expressed written consent of NSF International January 2019
