I Ii, KIIINII I P f R & AtiiCx I V]I )
FIELD STUDIES
File No. S-2010-4
January 22, 1974
PAGE TWO
Two percolation test borings were drilled in the
proposed sewage effluent disposal area, to depths of 15 and
20 feet, respectively. In addition to the percolation
test holes, a single boring was drilled to evaluate the
depth of the groundwater table. The approximate locations
of the test borings are shown on Plate I. All borings were
made with 6 -inch diameter flight auger type drilling equipment.
The soil conditions encountered at the boring locations
consist of a surface stratum of black silty clay with
organics to a depth of approximately one-half foot. Below
that depth, the soil consists of interbedded strata or lenses
of sandy silt and silty fine sand to the depths explored.
Free groundwater was encountered during drilling at a
depth of 74 feet in Boring 1, on January 11, 1974. The
water level on January 14, 1974, was measured at a depth
of 46 feet below the presently existing ground surface.
In our opinion, this 46 -foot depth represents the approximate
static water level at this site.
PERCOLATION TESTS
Percolation tests were performed in Borings 2 and 3.
The borings were initially filled with water one day in
advance of the tests to presoak the soil. The tests were
performed by filling the holes with water to a fixed reference
point and allowing the water to percolate into the soil.
