CUNNINGHAM, P
Attention: Jean Ladyman
Subject: Santos Ranch Development, San Joaquin County, California
— Section 205 (j) Clean Water Act Grant Application for Ground
Water Study.
Greetings:
The attached application for the above study is prepared and subm
for the Santos Ranch Development Citizens Committee, who have
requested that San Joaquin County act as the contracting agency for
this study. This Citizens Committee has stated in writing .(See Appendix
_ G of this application) that they will be responsible for the local share
funds (25%) when the gran' c ffer is made.
The Santos Ranch Development has a very high ground water table into
which septic tank leachate is discharged via conventional leaching trenchs.
Approximately 400 people and a school (225 students and staff) pump
their potable water supply from the shallow aquifers under this urban
development. This possible health and safely problem is further a.ggrivated
by very high Nitrate concentrations in said drinking water supply (NO3
at concentration levels of 69 mg/l to 90 mg/ls) and also high Total Disolved
Solids concentration from 1000 mg/l to 1500+ mg/1.
The citizens committee hopes to secure contracting support from San
Joaquin County in the very near future.
Sincerely,
L.A.
