Planning Proposals
Section 205 (j) Clean Water Act
_ Santos Ranch Area
San Joaquin County, California
20 August 1984
Introduction
This document will provide information necessary for evaluation of a
requested 205 (j) Clean Water Act Planning Grant for improvement of
ground water quality in the vicinity of Santos Ranch located four (4)
miles west of Tracy, California (see Location Map, Figure 1, page ii).
The following alphabetical topics are in conformance with State Water
Resources Control Board (SW RCB) guidelines dated 11 July 1984.
A. Summary
Approximately five hundred (500) people are living on slightly less than
five hundred (500) acres of nearly level land that has been subdivided
into approximately two hundred (200) single family home sites. Most
of the lots have been built on. A few homes are being built now (1984).
Lot sizes range from on (1) acre to approximately one and on half (20
acres in size. These ranchetts have a single family home, a few out
buildings, some livestock and in some cases a garage. Each of the houses
are served with individual sewage systems, consisting of septic tanks,
leaching lines or in some cases seepage pits, (as per local resident).
Domestic water is provided in the Currier Estates portion of the
development by a fairly deep well and water distribution piping. There
is apparently little or no water storage in the system, the remaining
homes have individual wells (60' to 120' deep).
There is an elementary school located adjacent to the north side of Currier
Estates. This school has approximately 225 students and staff which are
served domestic water from a second relatively deep well. School sewage
is treated in septic tanks (or tank) and disposed of via leaching lines.
