Waste handling areas designated for sorting, bulking and <br />packaging shall have a canopy or other roof structure, when <br />necessary, to prevent exposure to excessive heat or <br />precipitation. <br />14. Biohazardous waste will not be accepted at the collection <br />site. <br />15. Radioactive waste shall not be accepted at the collection <br />site(with the exception of smoke detectors). <br />16. The receipt of compressed gas (greater than 20 pounds), <br />reactive waste, and explosives (including ammunition) will <br />not be permitted at the collection site (unless the staff is <br />able to immediately contact the appropriate authorities to <br />properly handle the detonation and disposal of the wastes). <br />Such waste will be placed in a contained area away from the <br />public for prompt removal by the appropriate authorities. <br />17. Compressed gas containers (up to twenty pounds), aerosol <br />cans, and smoke detectors or alarms may be collected if <br />directed to appropriate recycling, manufacturing or disposal <br />facilities. <br />18. All collected waste shall be secured in a fenced area, <br />locked building or remain under surveillance until it is <br />removed to prevent tampering or the possibility of spills or <br />accidental release. All waste must be removed from the site <br />within 144 hours after the collection event. <br />19. At the closure of the collection site, the secondary <br />containment system, remaining containers, soil, and any <br />other items that are contaminated with hazardous wastes or <br />waste residues shall be decontaminated or removed for <br />appropriate disposal. At the end of the event, the site <br />manager will inspect the facility to ensure that it has been <br />returned to its original state. <br />20. A manifest summary of collected materials must be submitted to <br />the Department, at the letterhead address within 30 days after <br />the completion of the household hazardous waste collection <br />event. <br />21. Personnel from the State of California Environmental <br />Protection Agency, Department of Toxic Substances Control <br />shall be allowed to enter hazardous waste collection, <br />segregation identification, packaging, and handling areas for <br />monitoring and inspection. <br />
