J?m Thorpe Oil, Inc.
351 N. BECKMAN RD./ P.O. BOX 357
LODI, CA 95241-0357
(209)368-6175 / (209)462-4581 /CONTRACTORS LICENSE # 495699
January 8, 1997
San Joaquin County PHS
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Exempt underground farm tank removed from CA 6550 E. Highway 12, Lodi, CA.
Dear Sirs:
An exempt underground gasoline storage vessel was excavated and removed from
property owned by Mohammed Malik on the above mentioned date. The tank was in
extremely poor condition. So much so that simple excavation caused it to crumble into
small unrecognizable pieces of rusted out steel. This vessel is one of the very old riveted
type tanks approximately 200 gallons in size. There was no odor of gasoline or soil
discoloration in the tank excavation area. Due to its condition this vessel could not have
been used for a very long time. Triple rinse of the pieces of the tank is impractical. The
remaining pieces of this tank will be disposed of at Schnitzer Steel Products, .Rancho
Cordova, CA as scrap metal. (see attached tank tracking record)
The condition of the vessel and circumstances surrounding this tank removal were
reported to Kasey Foley of SJPHS/EHD by Richard Thorpe during a telephone
conversation this P.M.
Sincerely,
JIM THORPE OIL, INC.
Richard Thorpe, President
