Environmental Screening Level (ESL) for lead in soil issued by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board (SFBRWQCB).' The ESLs are human health- and environmental-protective concentrations derived by SFBRWQCB staff for direct comparison to environmental sample data for contaminated properties. The Tier 1 ESL is the most protective (i.e., the lowest concentration) of the various ESLs derived for a given analyte. Performance of the comparisons revealed that the lead results for both sample sets are below lead's Tier 1 ESL for soil. CONCLUSIONS Given Kleinfelder's observations during the soil sampling, an absence of total volatile organic vapors in excavated pea gravel and soil, and the analytical results of the post-removal soil samples, there is no evidence of a fuel release at the locations sampled. As such, Kleinfelder recommends no further action other than submitting this letter to San Joaquin County. LIMITATIONS Kleinfelder performed this assessment and prepared this letter report in accordance with generally accepted standards of care that exist in California at this time. This report may be used only by Costco, and only for the purposes stated, within a reasonable time from its issuance, but in no event later than 5 years from the report's date. All information gathered by Kleinfelder is considered confidential and will be released only upon written authorization of Costco or as required by law.
