Mike Smith Engineering, Inc.
P.O. Box 611 Lodi, CA
(209) 334-2332
July 13, 2004
San Joaquin County
Building Inspection Department
1810 E. Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
RE: Off-Site Wine Cellar For:
Craig& Sherri Watts
9810 E. State Route 12
Lodi, CA
PA—03-388
An inspection has been performed upon the existing, which is indicated in the conditions of approval for
site approval application no. PA-03-388. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if this
project will comply with current code provisions including structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical,
energy and disabled access requirements.
The existing building is a pole barn style Ag storage building. There is a steel panel skin, both roof and
exterior walls, supported by girts and purlins. Post are located at 20'-0" centers which support large
wood trusses. There is a continuous perimeter footing and interior isolated pier footings at each column.
There is knee bracing at each column, and there is diagonal bracing at the exterior walls. A new structure
has been constructed for the new barrel storage area in order to create a temperature control and fire
separation. The structural components in this area result in an extremely redundant structure, which will
easily conform to current code standards in regard to structural issues.
The electrical components all appear to be installed per code requirements. The new electrical for the
barrel storage are has not been installed. And therefore an inspection will force code conformity.
There will be no plumbing or mechanical components involved in this project. This will also eliminate
the issue of Title 24 energy compliance.
This is a family run business with no employees. This will eliminate the requirements of Title 24 for
handicap accessibility.
Sincerely, QR FE ONgI
L L COF
No.C 459 =
Michael W. Smith .I3- 1-0
R.C.E.
