US
Ecology was dispatched for inspection & remediation, along with notification to
Premium Env'l Services.
The release is approx. 20 drops per minute with a current release in the pit of 2
gals. US Ecology's 1st responder reports pH as 13- Caustic which currently fits the
declared product- bleach. Root cause was a pallet was loaded into the side of an
IBC tote, cracking the liner releasing approx. 200 gals of the Sodium Hypochlorite
solution (Justeq07) during transit from Chicago to Stockton. The remaining quantity
(-100 gals) was transferred into drums for manifesting.
As such, this is a shipper responsibility & US Ecology will bill Greenwood Motor
Lines/R+L Carriers directly.
Ancillaries
In accordance with BNSF?s Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide, ancillary charges
may apply to this shipment. An invoice, if applicable, will be generated to the
shipper upon completion of the incident review.
Leaker Disclaimer
In addition, please be advised that some counties in the State of California will send
BNSF Railway an invoice for their activity/handling/response charges associated
with a leaking shipment. It is not uncommon for BNSF Railway to receive these
invoices several months after incident occurrence, which will be promptly
submitted to the appropriate shipper for payment. The shipper should contact the
issuing county if they have any questions regarding the invoice charges.
2
