0
SAN JOAQUIN FARM bUREAU fEdERATION
MEETING TODAY'S PROBLEMS/PLANNING FOR TOMORROW
July 17, 1978
San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, Ca 95205
Gentlemen:
The San Joaquin Farm Bureau would like to express their
opposition and concern to the proposed Solid Waste Facility
Permit #30-AA-015 for the Forward Inc. , Landfill Site.
Our major concern is with the type of waste allowed by the
permit, such as -- limited hazardous wastes, septic tank pumpings,
sewage sludge, and other wastes that could eventually reach the
underground water stratas that are used for agricultural pumping
and domestic wells, both rural and city.
We are aware of the precautions that are outlined in the
permit. We are also aware that in past years, rice was raised in
that immediate area until it was found that the water used to
flood the rice percolated into the underground at such a fast
rate, that it was unfeasible to continue raising rice. This
would indicate to us that there is a possibility of future under-
ground water contamination.
It is our feeling that the facility should also be in full
compliance of all standards before a permit is issued.
Sincerely,
SANJOOAQUIN FARM BUREAU FEDERATION
M4 Ji.
MIKE G. GIKAS, Chairman
Zoning and Land Use Committee
MGG/cm
POST OFFICE BOX 8444 • 3960 CHEROKEE RD. 0 (209) 931-4931 • STOCKTON, CA 95208
