As a result of your verbal authorizaticn
of March 28, 1980, we are currently accepting petroleum production brines
in pond #i and rotary drilling mud in pond #2. Ponds #3 and #4 are inactive.
(See attached site sketch, plate 1 .)
On March 20, 1980, Monitoring well #3 was drilled to a depth of 12;-feet.
Confined (artesian) groundwater was first encountered at 88-feet depth and
ultimately stabilized at 82-feet below ground surface. Caving sand at
88-feet prevented setting the 4-inch PVC casing below 90-feet. The casing
was perforated from 90-feet back to 50-feet and the annular space was
" packed with li8"-3%8" pea-gravel . A cement surface seal was placed from
5-feet depth back to ground surface.
Monitoring wells #4, #5, and #6 were drilled to total depths of 30-feet .
The lower 10-feet of 4" PUC casing was perforated and the annular space
was gravel packed and a surface seal placed as above described. All of
the 30-foot wells were dry. the lags of each well are attached and the
well locations are shown on Plate 1 , Site Sketch.
We. intend to collect: groundwater sae+iples from all site monitoring wells
during the 1st week following the calendar quarter and submit the required
analytical data during the month of April , 1980. If necessary, we will
evacuate fluids from. disposal trenches at the same time as the wells are
sampled., Any accumulated fluids will, be pumped to solar evaporation
pond #l . (We notify you in advance of our sampling activity so that
you may be pr--lent, if desired:)
Undisturbed samples of soil were collected from the floor of solar eva-
poration, ponds #3, Pi, and #5 and tested for fluid permeability with the
following results:
326 Commercial Street • San Jose, California 95112 (408) 295-7483
