0
July 20, 1981
Project 116-1,3
-2-
Additional industrial wastes consisting of wet -solid sludges were
accepted for disposal in the .Group l Trench Landfill Arca and were
placed in Trench #3. Liquid *as1es consisting of drilling mud and
gas -well brines were disposed in Evaporation pond #2. Table 2 below,
provides volume data on all Group l waste approved for disposal in
Landfill Trench #3 and Evaporation Pond #2.
Group 1 sludge wastes placed in Disposal Trench #3 are covered, when
possible, on a daily basis with a minimum 6 inch thickness of clean earth
as requested by representatives of the California Department of Health
Services.
TOTAL 9,234
n.
68O 14,457
Landfill trenches in the Group 1 disposal area are checked each quarter for
the presence of water in the leachate collection sump. During the second
Quarter Monitoring period, all trench sumps have remained dry.
As previously indicated, regional decline in groundwater level has caused
Munituring Wells #l, #2 and #3 to go dry, Monitoring Wells A, #5 and #6
were installed to a depth of 401, and have always been dry.
Groundwater samples were collected from Monitoring Wells #7 and #g on
July 15, 1980. Prior to sampling, each well was balled to remove a volume
of water equal to the well volume. The sample was than collected and
fltered through a #42 Whatman Filter Paper to remove suspended sol|ds.
The sample wa*s,then split and half of each sample was fixed with nitric
acid to preserve for metal ions.
These sampling methods and subsequent analyses are in conformance with
"Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater." Analyses
were performed by Emcon Associates of San Jose, California, a water labora-
tory certified by the California Department of Health Serv|ces, Table 3
summarizes all groundwater observations and analyses at Monitoring Wells
#7 and #9.
TABLE 2 - CROUP 1 WASTE
FMC
Proctor Gamble
Drilling Mud
Brine -
Month
April 1981
4,142
60
680
4,823
May 1981
3,972
4O
0
6,857
June 1981
1,120
80
O
4,777
TOTAL 9,234
n.
68O 14,457
Landfill trenches in the Group 1 disposal area are checked each quarter for
the presence of water in the leachate collection sump.
