CIWMB
Santa Fe Road Disposal Sites
April 14, 2003
Project No. 104690003
als from the non bum materials, to the extent possible. For example, trench T-1 contains 18
feet of burned refuse and debris and 3 feet of refuse.
Actual volumes of buried wastes, if excavated, stockpiled, and disposed will vary signifi-
cantly from the in place volume estimates provided in this letter -report.
If clean closure of the site is the recommended remedial alternative, the waste volume esti-
mates will need to be refined by performing additional site assessment work in areas where
data is absent.
Some areas of the site were not evaluated. In providing a waste volume estimate, some of
these areas were assumed to contain buried wastes, while other areas were assumed to not
contain buried wastes based on available data. It is important to note that often buried wastes
were placed at isolated locations and the wastes are not laterally continuous. Without the
benefit of a trench at these locations, it is not feasible to evaluate if wastes exist in these ar-
eas.
The rough order -of -magnitude volume estimates provided are only intended to assist the
CIWMB for preliminary planning purposes.
Based on available field data and assumptions, the rough order -of -magnitude volume estimate of
refuse and/or debris is estimated at approximately 130,000 bank cubic yards (bey) (Figure 1).
The rough order -of -magnitude volume estimate for burned material with or without debris is es-
timated at approximately 30,000 bcy (Figure 2).
We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be of continued service to the CIWMB on the SFRDS
project.
