Effluent Testing for the Ahern Truck Stop Design
By Paul Donoho, R.E.H.S.
The system at the Ahern Truck stop has been designed to reduce the nutrient load to the soil disposal
area. It will not only reduce the BODS, and TSS but is designed to reduce the Nitrate loading to 10 mg/L
or lower. The following is the recommended sampling protocol for this system from the Orenco OM&M
Manual which is an attachment to the design.
Testing Shall be performed on the influent and effluent on a quarterly basis for the first year of
operation. These tests shall include BODS,TSS and Nitrate. During this period the results shall be used
to adjust(as necessary)the Alkalinity and Carbon feed to achieve the highest possible Nitrate reduction
while maintaining the lowest BODS and TSS readings.
All other testing and maintenance shall also follow the recommendations in the above-mentioned
manual.
