Project Description Griffith Energy Storage Project <br /> Prevention Plan (SWPPP), or similar plan that incorporates stormwater best management practices <br /> (BMPs) to reduce the adverse effects of erosion and sedimentation. Such practices would include, for <br /> example, the use of water trucks to manage dust; silt fencing, straw wattles and temporary catch basins, <br /> and inlet filters to control stormwater; and truck tire muck shakers, or similar devices, to prevent mud and <br /> debris from being carried onto roadways. <br /> Landscaping <br /> The Project would not include landscaping. <br /> CONSTRUCTION <br /> Construction Access and Deliveries <br /> Delivery of material and supplies would reach the Project site through on-road truck delivery through <br /> Interstate 580 to Patterson Pass Road to Midway Road. The majority of the truck deliveries would be for <br /> the energy storage enclosures and PCS installation, as well as any aggregate material that may be <br /> required for foundations. These loads would typically be limited to 40 tons, or 80,000 pounds, with a <br /> typical cargo load of approximately 25 tons, or 50,000 pounds. Typically, rock is delivered in "bottom <br /> dump trucks" or"transfer trucks"with six axles. Low-bed transport trucks would transport the construction <br /> equipment to the site as needed. The size of the low-bed trucks (axles for weight distribution)would <br /> depend on the equipment transported. The heaviest delivery loads to the site would be for the step-up <br /> transformer, which may weigh up to 160,000 pounds. <br /> Construction Schedule <br /> Construction would generally consist of the following activities: <br /> • Site Preparation <br /> • Fencing <br /> • Electrical Work <br /> Grading and Site Preparation <br /> The site would be prepared for construction. Rough grading may be performed where required to <br /> accommodate the support structures and access roads. Grubbing and grading would occur on the site to <br /> achieve the required surface conditions. Site preparation may include application of pre-emergent <br /> herbicides formulated to minimize impacts on wildlife. Application would be in accordance with federal, <br /> state, and San Joaquin County regulations and would be applied by a California state-licensed pesticide <br /> applicator. <br /> Retention basins, if required,would be created for hydrologic control. Access roads would be gravel or <br /> aggregate base depending on the final site geotechnical report. A temporary staging area, anticipated to <br /> be located on the southwest end of the site, would be constructed to hold materials and construction <br /> equipment. <br /> Due to the sloped topography of the Project site, site preparation would require approximately 407,000 <br /> cubic yards of cut and 406,000 cubic yards of fill, to create a single terrace on which the batteries would <br /> be installed. The balance of fill would be transported offsite. Slopes of all cuts and fills would be no <br /> steeper than is safe for the intended use and shall be no steeper than 1 unit vertical in 2 units horizontal <br /> (50 percent slope). Transition slopes between terraces would occur at a 1 unit vertical to 4 units <br /> horizontal. The top of a cut slope would not be made nearer to a site boundary line than one-fifth of the <br /> vertical height of cut with a minimum of 2 feet and a maximum of 10 feet, and the toe of fill slope would be <br /> made not nearer to the site boundary line than one half the height of the slope with a minimum of 2 feet <br /> June 2022 4 Griffith Energy Storage, LLC <br />
