PART C-AIR MONITORING, WORKER EXPOSURE MONITORING C.I. AIR MONITORING(Direct-Reading Instruments) ® Applicable ❑ Not Applicable,Not Anticipated EXPLANATORY NOTES,CLARIFICATIONS: Volatile Organic Compounds:Air monitoring of worker breathing zone will be performed by Geosyntec personnel while(i)borings are being advanced,(ii)new monitoring wells are being installed into auger casings,(iii)when grouting to surface,and(iv)when developing new monitoring wells. A photoionization detector with 11.7 eV lamp, properly calibrated in accordance with manufacturer's instructions,will be used for monitoring of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in the worker breathing zone during these activities. Worker breathing zone readings will be recorded on no less than a 15-minute frequency. Background readings will also be recorded and any sustained (longer than 5 seconds)detection above background levels will result in work stoppage so that engineering controls can be instituted;this will consist of electrically powered fans for the displacement of VOCs from the breathing zone. If sustained(longer than 5 seconds)detections above background level are still detected after engineering controls are in place then work shall stop and either additional engineering controls shall be put in use before resuming work activities or the boring will be terminated.
