Hewitt Rd., Linden
APN: 093-030-61, -63, SR0085847
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading
(SSNL) Study, dated September 2022 and has the following comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) usage and the
potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater from the proposed creation of a 4.7 acre, 5.8 acre, 4.5 acre, 4.1
acre parcel, and a 2.0 acre designated remainder. In addition to the newly formed parcels, a 4.9 acre parcel will be
formed through a lot -line adjustment.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings
Based on the information provided in SSNL study, the EHD finds that the long-term addition of nitrates
added to the sites, will be acceptable within the acceptable level of 10 mg/L if standard residential
construction is completed (i.e. a three bedroom single-family residence). Calculations in the SSNL study
indicate an estimated level of 4.24 mg/L, 3.98 mg/L, 3.35 mg/L, 3.86 mg/L, and 7.02 mg/L of nitrates for
the four proposed lots and the designated remained. The acceptable size of the septic tanks required on
the parcels will be dependent on the size of the future construction.
Percolation tests conducted on August 12th, 2022 yielded a percolation rate of 25 minutes/inch, 25
minutes/inch, 25 minutes/inch, 50 minutes/inch, and 36 minutes/inch. At this rate, an eight -foot soil
separation for all parcels with rates between 5 minutes/inch and 30 minutes/inch shall be required between
the bottom of dispersal field and groundwater. This includes the lots specified in the SSNL as lot 3, 4, and
the designated remainder. In addition a five-foot soil separation shall be required between the bottom of
dispersal field and groundwater for the two remaining parcels, as percolations rates fell between 30
minutes/inch and 120 minutes per inch. These requirements are pursuant to San Joaquin County Onsite
Wastewater Treatment Standard table 1.10.2. Per the SSNL Study, groundwater on sites are reported
between 150 and 160 feet below surface grade.
3. The OWTS and its 100% replacement areas shall meet all required minimum setbacks stated in San
Joaquin County (OWTS) Standard and Well Standard.
If you have any questions please contact Michael Suszycki, Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist, at
msuszycki@sjgov.org or (209) 598-7001.
Steven Shih, REHS
Program Coordinator
c: Nancy Butler & Salvador Rivera 550 N.
