Maintenance of a safe and clean working environment and adherence
to appropriate safety procedures are essential to a well-operated plant.
Operator Responsibilities
Any hazardous or unsafe conditions should be reported to the Supervisor.
All injuries or accidents should be reported immediately.
Safety devices and safety guards should be in place before operating equipment.
Proper protective equipment should be used for particular job conditions. Loose
clothing, jewelry, etc. should be avoided.
Good housekeeping should be practiced at all times.
Smoking should be prohibited except in designated areas away from sensitive
equipment or enclosed areas processing wastewater or sludge.
Equipment should never be left in an unsafe operation condition.
All electro-mechanical equipment should be "locked out" prior to the initiation of any
maintenance.
Personal Hygiene
Wastewater and its byproducts are potential hazards to treatment plant personnel due
to toxic chemicals and water borne disease organisms that may be present.
Keep hands and fingers away from nose, mouth, ears and eyes.
Hands should be washed thoroughly with soap and hot water before eating, drinking,
smoking, or using the rest room. Take a shower after each workday.
Store clean work clothes separately from dirty work cloths.
1cs/o&iii;7iealili-safelyrecords-i-5
