FORWARD, INC. , SOLAR EVAPORATION POND HYDROLOGIC BALANCE 1980-1982
To calculate the hydrologic balance for nonhazardous
drilling muds and water disposed of at the Forward, Inc. , site
in San Joaquin County, the following data was evaluated:
I + R - E = S
Where I is intake to Ponds 1-4 in March 1980 - March 1982
R is net rainfall
E is net evaporation
S is net drilling mud and water in storage
There are two significant phases of disposal operations of
drilling mud and water to consider. The first period is from
March of 1980 to March of 1982, where all material was stored in
Ponds 1-4. The second period is the use of a new Pond 5 for
receipt of materials after January of 1982 until the present.
All five solar evaporation ponds are currently in use.
Calculation of Volume of Material Received (I)
These calculations are based on data from actual State
waste manifest documents:
1) Total volume of drilling mud and brine received
Dec. 1980 - Dec. 1981 = 61418,650 gallons.
2) Total volume of drilling mud received lst quarter
of 1982 = 49998,000 gallons.
Total volume received = 11,416,650 gallons
Calculation of Pond Volumes
Feet Pond 1 Pond 2 Pond 3 Pond 4
Length 220 220 220 220
Width 87 84 84 75
Depth 6 6 6 6
1) From Volume = 1 x w x d
For Pond 1 - Volume = 114,840 cu. ft.
For Pond 2 - Volume = 110,880 cu. ft. L
For Pond 3 - Volume = 110,880 cu. ft. `
For Pond 4 - Volume = 99,000 cu. ft.
