The 10Z, solubility figure is <br /> used by DOHS in calculating Total Threshold LOW: Concentrations <br /> (TTLCs) for hazardous wastes from the Soluble Threshold Limit <br /> Concentrations (STLCs) in the CAM. Harold Singer of Region 2 uses <br /> the results of a 48-hours extraction in deciding acceptability of <br /> disposal of wastes containing metals at Class II-1 sites in the <br /> San Francisco Bay area. Metals are usually more soluble ® more <br /> environmentally mobile ® in acidic solutions . The results of an <br /> acidic extraction would provide a "worst-case" estimate of this <br /> potential mobility. The US EPA uses a pH 5 acetic acid solution <br /> in their EP Toxicity Test for the determination of hazardous <br /> wastes -- ref: Code of Feder'al Requlatj-ons-, Title 40, Chapter I, <br /> -371 <br /> Appendix II, pp. 3723. <br /> 6. Pesticide and industrial organic chemical concentrations shall not <br /> exceed ten times the CAM hazardous level and one-tenth times the <br /> CAM extre�miely hazardous level . <br /> [For most substances there is a 100-fold concentration difference <br /> between the CAM hazardous and extremely hazardous levels. This <br /> specification limits "borderline" Group 1 wastes to less than or <br /> equal to 1/10 of the difference between CAM hazardous and extreme- <br /> ly hazardous levels. The upper "borderline" concentration will be <br /> lower for those constituents having less than a 100-fold differ- <br /> ence between the two CAM levels. These materials are expected to <br /> pose a greater concentration-related threat to health or the <br /> environment. <br /> The constituent concentrations resulting from this specification <br /> were compared with cleanup levels used at sites in Region 5 (such <br /> as Oxidental , Lathrop) in order to check the applicability of this <br /> specification.] <br /> 7. If no CAM levels exist, concentrations of halogenated organic <br /> chemicals shall not exceed 50 ppm singly or 200 ppm cumulatively, <br /> and concentrations of organophosphate and carbamate chemicals <br /> shall not exceed 20 ppm singly or 100 ppm cumulatively. <br />
