Class II-I
Site Sampling and Observations;
San Joaquin County
From : Gary Reents
Permits, Surveillance and
Enforcement Section
On December 2, 1982, Charles McLaughlin, Steve Posner, and I visited the above
subject site located at 999 Austin Road, south of Stockton in San Joaquin
County. The main objective of the trip was to collect soil samples both on-
site and off-site to document if any barium and strontium wastes have contam-
inated the soils surrounding the disposal trenches. Secondly, a general inspec-
tion of the facility by observation was performed since I was present on-site.
Samples were taken as defined below and as delineated in the attached site map.
The samples taken were:
GAR-1 - barium and strontium waste sludge from FMC
GAR-2 - surface soil approximately 165 feet east of disposal trench
GAR-3 - surface soil approximately 170 feet east of disposal trench
GAR-4 - surface soil approximately 450 feet north of disposal trench
GAR-5 - surface soil approximately 275 feet north of disposal trench
GAR-6 - surface soil approximately 900 feet south of disposal trench
GAR-7 - surface soil approximately 900 - feet southwest of disposal trench
GAR-8 - surface soil approximately 400 feet west of disposal trench
GAR-9 - surface soil approximately 350 feet west of disposal trench
GAR-10 - liquid leachate sample near sludge pile at side of disposal trench
GAR-11 - surface soil at north boundary of the site, approximately 550 feet
from northeast corner
GAR-12 - same location as GAR-11 except at approximately 1.5 foot depth
