We still have free-board space available in the solar
evaporation ponds however, there is additional rain forcast for the
immediate future. If it becomes necessary to provide emergency
containment capacity to prevent over-topping of the ponds, we would use
Trench #4•
Trench #4 has been fitted with clay liners and has never contained any
waste material however, it is nearly full of rainwater. We have no
desire to convert this rainwater to leachate if waste transfer becomes
necessary, so, we are providing notification to your Board that we plan
to pump the water from Trench #4 and discharge to unused portions of the
site.
On March 10, 1983, a sample of the rainwater from Trench #4 was analyzed
at Nelson Labs of Stockton, California with the following results:
Specific Conductance 245 .vmhos/cm
(0.245 milmhos/cm)
Estimated Total Dissolved Solids 1 .57 mg/L
Analysis of chloride and sodium ion concentration will be completed
during the week of March 14, 1983, and forwarded to you under separate
cover. To our knowledge and based on the above water quality, the water
in Trench #4 has not come into contact with waste materials. If we find
to the contrary, we will analyze the trench water for all the
constituents required in our monitoring program prior to discharging the
pumped water.
1365 Vander Way • San Jose, California 95112 9 (408) 295-7483
