Class II - 1 Disposal Site
San Joaquin County, California (EPA ID Number CAD990794133)
Gentlemen:
Pursuant to recent telephone conversations with Ms. Debbie Robinson of
your staff, and in response to your warning letter, dated August 16, 1983,
we are submitting the following information pertaining to Part B,
Hazardous Waste Permit Application for the subject facility.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
During March 1978, the subject facility received a Hazardous Waste Permit
from the California Department of Health Services. During April 1978, a
Group 1 trench disposal area was established near the northeast corner of
the site and permission was received from the Regional Water Quality
Control Board (Central Valley Region) and the California Department of
Health Services to accept FMC process waste for disposal in the trench
disposal area. These barium/strontium process wastes were accepted for
disposal on a continuous basis until Trench #1, #2 and #3 were filled.
We are currently in the process of completing construction of disposal
Trench #4 to continue accepting the FMC process waste. Trench #1 and #2
are completely filled with the FMC barium/strontium process waste. A
small quantity of other low level, Group 1 wastes were disposed in Trench
#3 in accordance with authorization from the California Department of
Health Services and the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(see Table 1). Disposal Trench #3 was completely filled and capped
during January 1983 and since that time, no further shipments of FMC
waste have been accepted for disposal.
In addition to the above described Group 1 disposal area, 5 solar
evaporation ponds were constructed during February 1980 and have been
used for disposal of rotary drilling muds and saline water produced by
gas and oil wells generally located in the San Joaquin Delta area. These
waste materials are exempt from regulation under RCRA.
1365 Vander Way • San Jose, California 95112 o (408) 295-7483
