Sampling and Analysis Plan
7
3.3.1 Soil Sampling and Analysis
Soil samples will be collected from borings identified on Table 3.1 and depicted on Figures 2.1
through 2.16. At each boring location, continuous soil cores will be collected in 4-ft sections from the
surface to boring termination. The soil core will be described using the Unified Soil Classification
System (USCS) and screened for VOCs with a photoionization detector (PID).
A minimum of two samples will be collected from each boring at the depths listed on Table 3.1.
Sample locations may be adjusted based on field geologist observations during drilling, such as PID
detections, olfactory or visual indications of contamination so that samples are collected from
contaminated areas. Deviation from the proposed sample depths listed on Table 3.1 shall be
approved by the Field Task Leader.
Soil samples will be collected in containers listed on Table 3.3 and labeled in accordance with the
SOP 3 included in Appendix B. Samples will be shipped, under chain of custody control, for
overnight delivery a California certified laboratory and analyzed for constituents listed on Table 3.1.
3.3.2 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Groundwater samples will be collected from borings identified on Table 3.2 and depicted on Figure
2.16. After reaching groundwater, the soil core will be removed from the DPT drive rod and a new ¾-
inch inside diameter (ID) poly vinyl chloride (PVC) slotted screen and casing will be lowered through
the DPT drive rod to the bottom of the boring. The DPT rod will be retracted up to 5-feet to allow
groundwater into the screen.
Groundwater samples will be collected using a disposable bailer or peristaltic pump with disposable
tubing. The sample will be decanted from the bailer or pumped directly into laboratory supplied
containers. Samples collected for dissolved metals will be filtered in the field with disposable 0.45-
micron filters before sample preservation.
Groundwater samples will be collected in laboratory supplied containers listed on Table 3.3 and
labeled in accordance with the SOP 3 included in Appendix B. Samples will be shipped, under
chain of custody control, for overnight delivery to a California certified laboratory and analyzed for
constituents listed on Table 3.2.
3.3.3 Boring Abandonment and Survey
After sample collection, temporary well screen and casing will be removed and the boring will be
sealed to near ground surface with grout or bentonite pellets in accordance with SJCEHD permit.
The bentonite will be hydrated and the top six inches of the boring will be restored to match
predrilling conditions.
The boring geospatial location coordinates will be recorded with a hand-held global positioning
system (GPS) receiver capable of sub-meter accuracy.
