Safety and Health Plan
Sandhu Property Tracy, California
October 22, 2021 Terracon Project No. NA217074
14
Remove all constricting clothing or jewelry from the bite site because swelling may occur. Remove
shoes if bitten on the leg.
•Do not apply a tourniquet.
•Clean the wound if possible.
•Do not pack wound in ice or apply heat.
•Do not give the victim a sedative or alcohol.
•Do not waste time capturing or killing the snake.
•Do not cut into the bite area; you might damage important nerves, tissues or muscles
Rodents
The possibility of encountering rodents exists. Avoid walking in areas where rodents may nest or
hide. When walking, always look ahead for signs of rodents. Employees should make as much
noise as possible when approaching an area to allow time for the rodent to leave. Use a long
handled shovel, heavy equipment or other tools when moving or lifting objects that could be used
by nests. Never reach under or behind objects or into other areas where rodents may hide. Look
before placing your hands or feet anywhere, and do not put your hands or feet into places you
cannot see.
Rodents are potential hosts of hantaviruses which can kill humans if infected. Symptoms may
include flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, muscle pain, headache, lethargy two to three
weeks after exposure. Hanta virus pulmonary syndrome is characterized by sudden shortness of
breath and pulmonary edema. There are no known vaccines for hantavirues. Employees
exhibiting the symptoms should seek medical help immediately. The best prevention against
hanta virus is to eliminate or minimize contact with rodents.
10.0 ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND SAFE OPERATING PROCEDURES
• Before drilling/probing are permitted, underground utilities will be located and marked.
• The SSO will hold daily safety briefings at the beginning of each day of site activity.
• If site activities interrupt the normal flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic, appropriate
barricades will be erected around the project site. Safety orange work vests will be worn by
personnel working within 10 feet of any active roadway or when vehicles or mobile equipment
are present onsite.
• The SSO will ensure that unauthorized personnel do not enter the work zone. Authorized
visitors will be briefed on site contaminants, personal protective equipment requirements and
the decon provisions of this Plan.
• The SSO will continually inspect the work area for infractions of Health and Safety
requirements contained in this plan.
