SHALLOW INJECTION WELL INSTALLATION WORK PLAN
arcadis.com
2022.02.15 OCC Lathrop_Shallow Injection Well Installation Work Plan_final 4
4.1 Pilot Boring and Injection Well Installation Activities
4.1.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to well installation activities, underground utility clearance, and permitting and property access
negotiations will be conducted as described below.
4.1.1.1 Health and Safety
The Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP; Arcadis 2021) outlines general health and safety
procedures followed at the site and will be reviewed by Arcadis field staff and the subcontractor’s field
staff prior to beginning field activities. General and well installation health and safety procedures will be
followed during field activities as outlined in the HASP.
4.1.1.2 Underground Utility Clearance
Prior to commencement of investigation activities, and in accordance with state law, Underground Service
Alert (USA) will be notified of the intent to conduct subsurface investigations at least 48 hours prior to
initiation of intrusive field tasks. The proposed well locations will be clearly marked with white paint or
surveyor’s flagging as required by USA. In addition, USA will notify utility owners of record within the
vicinity of the proposed well location. The utility owners of record, or their designated agents, will be
expected to clearly mark the position of their utilities on the ground surface throughout all publicly owned
areas designated for well installations.
In addition to contacting USA, a private utility locator will be contracted to assess for locations of potential
underground utilities (i.e., pipes, electrical conductors, fuel lines, and/or sewer lines) before intrusive work
is performed. The well locations will be cleared to a depth of 5 feet bgs using air-knife and/or hand-
digging methods to further evaluate for the presence of underground utilities. The proposed well locations
may be adjusted in the field based on the presence of utilities.
4.1.1.3 Permits
Well installation permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(SJCEHD) before drilling activities begin. The pilot borings and wells will be installed in accordance with
the SJCEHD Well Standards (Appendix A).
4.1.1.4 Proposed Grouting Method and Drilling Fluid Review
Prior to the start of work, the C-57 licensed contractor will provide copies of all specifications and written
installation procedures for the proposed drilling fluid, grout, and proposed well materials to Arcadis for
review and approval.
