Site roads are hazardous and sampling crews will use <br /> caution when driving on and around the site. <br /> Personnel will be instructed to use care when walking, due to uneven surfaces. Personnel will avoid wild <br /> animals (e.g., dogs, coyotes, and birds) and shall immediately go into the site vehicle until the animal has <br /> left the area. Personnel will use proper lifting techniques when moving the air cylinders and other <br /> sampling equipment. Personnel will use proper precautions to avoid ticks and other insects. <br /> 6.1.24 Facility Monitoring <br /> This procedure establishes safe work practices and precautionary activities that must be followed to <br /> protect employees during facility monitoring activities. <br /> Personnel may be required to perform facility inspection activities throughout designated areas of the <br /> site to include, but not limited to, inspection of monitoring and recovery wells, overgrown vegetation, <br /> runoff areas, and final cover and drainage system inspections. <br /> Hazards for these activities include hand tools, uneven work surfaces, lifting/moving of equipment, <br /> slip/falls, muscle strain, animals,ticks, and poisonous plants. <br /> Personnel will be instructed with the maintenance equipment and will be familiar with its operation. <br /> Electrical hazards must be identified and proper lockout/tagout procedures shall be implemented to <br /> avoid electrical shock. Proper material handling procedures/body mechanics will be used to avoid <br /> muscle strains. Personnel will be instructed to use care while walking on the landfill, due to the uneven <br /> surface and avoid passing through areas of runoff or erosion. Personnel will avoid animals and shall go <br /> to the site vehicle until the animal has left the area. Personnel shall use the proper precautions to avoid <br /> ticks, insects and poisonous plants. <br /> 6.1.25 Insects/Spiders <br /> Observe the following procedures and practices regarding insects/spiders: <br /> • Tuck pants into socks. <br /> • Wear long sleeves. <br /> • Use insect repellent. <br /> • Avoid contact by always looking ahead to where walking, standing, sitting, leaning, grabbing, <br /> lifting, or reaching. <br /> — Check for signs of insect/spider bites, such as redness, swelling, and flu-like <br /> symptoms. <br /> 6-17 <br />
