Safety and Health Plan <br />Proposed Distribution Center Stockton, California <br />February 18, 2022 Terracon Project No. NA227001 <br />22 <br />Calculate the adjusted temperature using the following formula: <br />ADJUSTED TEMPERATURE = 13(% CLOUD COVER) + DRY TEMPERATURE <br />Rest regimens will be implemented at frequencies dependent upon adjusted temperature. Monitor <br />pulse during each rest period. <br />Adjusted Temperature Rest Period/Monitoring Frequency <br /> 90+After 15 minutes <br /> 87.5-90 After 30 minutes <br /> 82.5-87.4 After 60 minutes <br /> 77.5-82.5 After 90 minutes <br /> 70.5-77.4 After 120 minutes <br />Employees will return to work only after their pulse rate is below 90. Fluid replacement will be <br />encouraged during each rest period. The use of stimulants and alcoholic beverages in off hours <br />should be discouraged to prevent heat related illnesses. <br />17.3 Cold Stress <br />Persons working outdoors in low temperatures are subject to cold stress, especially if the <br />temperature is at or below freezing. Exposure to cold for a short period of time can cause severe <br />injury to the surface of the body (frostbite), or result in profound general cooling, potentially <br />resulting in clinical hypothermia and death. Areas of the body with high surface to volume area, <br />such as fingers, toes, and ears are the most susceptible. In general, the body's response to cold <br />stress progresses from frostbite to hypothermia. Recognition of the symptoms of cold stress is <br />essential to worker protection when operating in low temperatures. <br />including thermal hardhat liners, gloves, and footwear traction devices to prevent slips and falls <br />on slick and icy walking surfaces. <br />18.0 TRAFFIC CONTROL <br />Worksites confront motorists with a situation they do not expect, cannot anticipate and find <br />confusing. They also tend to create hazards with which the driver can collide. Worksites distract <br />driving tasks and expose workers to oncoming traffic. <br />Some inadequate traffic control measures that have led to worksite traffic accidents include: <br />Inadequate advance warning <br />Inadequate and inappropriate signs and messages <br />Confusing messages <br />Inadequate guidance through the work zone
