, w
Response: See tentative WDRs to be considered by the RWQCB on June 7, 2002 for
corrective action at the Austin Road Landfill. Section 2.5.6 - Austin Road
Interim Closure, has been added to the JTD which discusses the interim
closure schedule. Additionally, drawings 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 have been revised to
reflect the revised grading for the interim final cover area and to indicate
the revised slope gradient.
Comment 4: As noted in the JTD, landfill gases are believed to be an important source
of VOCs in groundwater at Austin Road landfill and a source of the
intermittent detections of VOCs in groundwater at Forward. The JTD
proposed to improve the existing gas extraction system at Austin Road
and incorporate the Forward area into the improved system. These
improvements are part of the corrective actions for clean up
contaminated groundwater. A time schedule for improvements to the
landfill gas monitoring and extraction system should be submitted as an
addendum to the JTD.
Response: See tentative WDRs to be considered by the RWQCB on June 7, 2002 for
corrective action at the Austin Road Landfill. Section 2.5.6 - Austin Road
Interim Closure, has been added to the JTD which discusses the landfill
gas system improvement schedule.
Comment 5: Forward is concurrently working on a revised Engineering Feasibility
Study for cleanup of the Austin Road groundwater contamination. Staff
anticipates that the study will conclude with a plan consisting of
improvements to the gas extraction system, artificial recharge of treated
groundwater, and addition of one or more downgradient extraction wells.
A time schedule for implementing the results of the EFS should be
submitted as an addendum to the JTD. This time schedule may
incorporate the schedule asked for in item 4 above.
Response: See tentative WDRs to be considered by the RWQCB on June 7, 2002 for
corrective action at the Austin Road Landfill.
