RECEIVED
JUN - 7 2000
Community Development Dept. June 7, 2000
To Whom It May Concern
These comments are in concern of the Forward Dump site on Austin Road.
We do not believe that expanding the dump is a good idea, or safe for the
environment. Already there is water contamination. Many pieces of property can't use
the water already, more dumping can only make this worse. ,The dump keeps getting
higher and higher. You look out of your yard from two miles away and see a huge
mountain of garbage.
What concerns us the most is the dust that comes off the loads of garbage when
they are dumped. When the trailers are lifted up to dump, trash and dust carries for miles.
The creeks and fields around the dump are filled with trash going into them all the time.
The dust that blows out of the load carries in the air to other property covering the
trees, vines, and row crops with dust and contaminants. The dust carries for miles
making the sky hazy. It actually makes it hard to breath sometimes downwind on windy
days. You can see the dust coming from the dump on the leaves of the trees, vines, and
other crops.
Crops like grapes are crushed for wine and are not washed and all the dust from
the garbage that is dumped goes in with it. There is concern from some buyers if these
crops can keep being accepted.
The smell of the dump also gets worse all the time as it expands.
To use some of the best agricultural land in the state for a dump seems foolish.
Not only are you ruining that piece of property, but also the property around it is effected
greatly. Also the water table under it is effected, because without clean water the
property is useless as is the property with contaminated wells to the North. The property
value of these pieces of land is no doubt less than it would be without the dumping.
Truck traffic to and from the dump is heavier all the time. At times, a solid line of
trucks are traveling up and down Austin Road. There is always some garbage falling and
blowing off the loads along the road that blows onto our property.
We believe that to keep dumping, much less expand the dump, would be
devastating to surrounding property owners as well as the environment.
Enclosed are pictures of the dust from dumping and garbage carrying to other
property and in the creeks.
With great concern,
Alan deGraaf 04?OtG7Hugo deGraaf
Robin deGraaf Alberta deGraaf `
Walter deGraaf Derrick deGraaf
Phil Martinez Daniel deGraaf QJ cU
Katy Martin O;,;
