PES Environmental, Inc. <br /> 3.2 Physical Hazards <br /> On-site physical hazards include: <br /> • Mechanical hazards will exist related to operating and being in the vicinity of the <br /> backhoe; <br /> • Tripping or falling hazards may exist around the excavation and excavation equipment; <br /> • Noise hazards may exist from operating or working near excavation equipment; and <br /> • General hazards. <br /> 4.0 HAZARD MITIGATION <br /> 4.1 Site Security and Control <br /> Areas on site where hazardous substances are known to exist will be secured through <br /> demarcation tape and warning signs. Access to the work area will be restricted, and all <br /> personnel (regardless of status) requesting entry the work area will be required to report <br /> to the site safety officer and sign in on the site control log. All visitors will be briefed on <br /> site-specific safety and health issues. The site will be kept demarcated during hours of <br /> non-operation. <br /> 4.2 General Hazards <br /> The potential for unknown hazards cannot be eliminated. Hazards can exist for all <br /> exposure routes such as inhalation, dermal contact, ingestion, and eye contact. <br /> Potential safety hazards will include, but are not limited to, excavation, sampling, and/or <br /> general construction hazards, such as: <br /> • Physical contact with sampling and/or heavy excavation equipment; <br /> • Physical contact with motor vehicles; <br /> • Slips/trips/falls due to unstable surfaces, or uneven terrain. <br /> • Exposure to site contaminants including dust; <br /> • Equipment noise; <br /> 148400101H002.doc 4 <br />
