PES Environmental, Inc. <br /> • Keep unnecessary people away, isolate the hazardous area, deny entry to unauthorized <br /> people, do not allow unauthorized people to touch spilled material; <br /> • Stay upwind; <br /> • Keep out of low areas; <br /> • Keep combustibles away from the spilled material; <br /> • Use a water spray to reduce vapor or dust generation being cautious not to cause the <br /> migration of water outside the set boundaries; <br /> • If necessary, take samples for analysis to determine adequate clean up was performed; <br /> and <br /> • Remove or retrieve any discharged liquids or slugs. Absorb discharged materials with <br /> absorbents such as commercial pillows, kitty litter, sand, clean fill, or other <br /> noncombustible absorbent material. Place the absorbent/spill mixture into leak proof <br /> containers and dispose per EPA and DOT requirements. <br /> 10.5 Notification of Spills and Discharges <br /> If the spill or discharge is reportable, and/or human health or the environment is threatened, <br /> notify the National Response Center, Public Health Services of San Joaquin County, Stockton <br /> Police and Fire Department non-emergency lines, and the Project Manager. Spills or leaks, <br /> regardless of their quantity will be reported to the Project Manager immediately following <br /> discovery. A follow-up written report will be submitted to the Project Manager within seven <br /> (7) days after the initial report. The written report will be in narrative form and as minimum <br /> include the following: <br /> • A description of the material spilled including identity and quantity. Photographs <br /> showing the location and extent of the spill; <br /> • A statement as to whether the amount spilled is EPA/State reportable and when and to <br /> whom it was reported; <br /> • Exact time and location of the spill, including a description of the area involved; and <br /> • Containment procedure initiated, and a full description of the cleanup measures taken, <br /> or to be taken, including disposal location of the spill residue. <br /> In the event that on-site spill-control equipment is not adequate to control a spill or discharge <br /> event, or if there is an elevated risk to on-site health and safety personnel in responding to a <br /> spill, PES will notify an emergency response provider to provide necessary emergency spill <br /> control measures.
