Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
Two septic systems are currently located on the Site (Plate 2). The eastern one is the
new system for the main house. The western system served the original house before it
was demolished and rebuilt.
Proposed Septic System
Mr. Matthews proposes to connect the second unit dwelling to the leach field for the old
(western) septic system discussed above. Live Oak and Mr. Matthews met with Mr.
Steven Shih, Program Coordinator for Land Use at the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department on April 25, 2022. At this time, Mr. Shih indicated
that connecting to the old leach field would be acceptable as long as the system was
tested and functioning. The system has been tested by River Rats Septic & Plumbing
Services and found to be working (Appendix 6).
On -Site Septic Permit History
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were
searched for the Site addresses. Four septic documents were identified:
• September 1987 permit for repair to existing residential septic system. The
system utilized a 1,200 -gallon tank, two 40 -foot leach lines, and two 33 -inch
diameter by 25 -foot deep seepage pits.
• April 2008 permit for out -of -service septic tank.
• March 2012 application for a temporary waiver from requirement to destroy
septic tank.
• August 2020 permit for replacement residential septic system. The system
utilized a 1,500 -gallon tank, three 61 -foot leach lines, and three 36 -inch diameter
by 25 -foot deep seepage pits.
These permits have been included in Appendix 4 of this report.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that
exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery
from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed to have
one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 67 septic systems per
square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
LOGE 2226 Page 2
