SOP-001 Standard Operating Procedure Field Sample Management <br />Page 2 of 4 Revision No. 0 April 2019 <br /> <br />Sharpe Army Depot <br /> <br />3.2 Procedures <br />3.2.1 Sample Identification <br />Samples to be collected will employ the following sample numbering system. This system provides a uniform and consistent numbering system to be employed in the field. <br />[Sample Media][Location Number]-[Sample Type] <br />The following designations will be used for the site identification: <br />• MW01-NS <br />• SV01-DS <br />The following designations will be used for each sample medium: <br />• GW = Groundwater sample <br />• EW = Extraction Well sample <br />• MW = Monitor Well Sample <br />• SV = Soil Vapor <br />• IDW = Investigation Derived Waste <br />The following designations will be used for each sample type: <br />• NS = Normal Sample <br />• DS = Duplicate Sample <br />• EB = Equipment Blank <br />• TP = Trip Blank <br />• FB = Field/Equipment Blank <br />Details associated with the sample location and if the sample is designated for QC volumes (e.g., MS/MSD) will be fully documented within the field notebook. <br />3.2.2 Sample Labels <br />Sample labels are required to prevent misidentification of samples. Sample labels will generally be pre-printed by a database technician and taken to the field by the sampling crew. <br />The sample label will be affixed to the proper sample container at the time of the sampling event by the field sampler. The labels will contain the following information: <br />• Sample identification number (ID); <br />• Site ID; <br />• Analyses requested; <br />• Preservatives used; <br />• Matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate (MS/MSD) if required.
