Health and Safety Plan <br />June 16, 2021 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br /> <br />3.0 PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br />3.1 TRIP AND SLIP PROTECTION <br />Good housekeeping shall be maintained at the site to prevent trip and slip hazards. <br /> <br />3.2 HEAT STRESS <br />Heat stress will be a hazard during hot weather and will be intensified when personnel are in protective <br />clothing (if necessary). To prevent heat stress, personnel will be required to take breaks as needed, and <br />consume adequate quantities of liquid. <br /> <br />4.0 BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS <br />4.1 STINGING INSECTS <br />Care should be exercised to avoid bees, yellow jackets, or other stinging or biting insects. <br /> <br />4.2 ANIMAL <br />High-topped boots should be worn when working in tall grass to protect against snake-bite. <br /> <br />4.3 PLANT <br />Poison oak and poison ivy should be avoided when present on the site. If contact is made with poison oak <br />or poison ivy wash the contact area thoroughly with soap and water as soon as possible after contact occurs. <br /> <br />5.0 CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br />5.1 INHALATION <br />Care should be exercised to avoid creating excess dust during sampling activities. Personnel will work <br />up-wind of sampling locations. <br /> <br />5.2 DERMAL CONTACT <br />Care should be exercised to prevent contact of soil with skin. Use of gloves and disposable clothing (if <br />necessary) will reduce skin contact with soil. <br /> <br />5.3 INGESTION <br />Eating and smoking will not be allowed within the exclusion zone. <br /> <br />6.0 TRAFFIC HAZARDS <br />Field activities taking place in public streets or on road shoulders shall use Caltrans approved flagging and <br />traffic control during the duration of activities. While working in public streets with heavy traffic assume <br />that the operator of a motor vehicle is unable to see you and keep a safe distance from moving traffic. Keep <br />off roadways, when practical, and away from moving traffic. Approved safety vests will be worn by all <br />personnel when working in areas of traffic hazard. <br /> <br />7.0 COMMUNICATION PROCEDURES <br />The following standard hand signals will be used if and when required. <br /> <br /> Hand gripping throat ................
